HEAVY HORSE COMPETITION

Heavy horse competitions returned to Bakewell Showground as part of our third annual Bakewell Country Festival, comprising seven classes, including a Young Handlers class. CLASSES FOR 2025 WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN 2025.

 

It is free to enter the Young Handlers class and the winner will qualify for the Young Handler championship at the Midland Shire Foal Show:

- Brood Mare Class
- Foal Class
- Yearling Class
- Two Year Old Class
- Three Year Old and Over
- Barren Mare or Gelding Four Year Old and Up

- Young Handlers Class (ages 12 - 18)

The prize money for the six adult classes is as follows:
1st place: £50
2nd place: £40
3rd place: £30
4th place: £20
Overall Champion: £100

​

The prize money for the Young Handlers class is as follows:

1st place: £30

2nd place: £20

3rd place: £20

4th place: £20

​

The Shire Horse Society Silver Spoon and rosette will also be awarded.
